Goats milk soap on sponge

I purchased three of these products (soap and sponge) to take as hostess gifts for an upcoming European trip. The products are nicely packaged and are of excellent quality. I am so happy to be able to give these as “local” gifts and to also support a small business.

Smells wonderful. Not quite sure why the sponge is attached to the soap. Are you supposed to detach it ?
